Image: Lynn Atkin.Already at the end of my second month with the NSAH and it’s been a whirlwind of meetings, introductions and fact findings. One of the things that has struck me most is the passion everyone within their Excellence centre has for their role and responsibility. The vision for each may be different but the values and ethos are the same; providing the best possible outcome for their workforce, which in turn enables the best possible outcome for their patients.

My travels have now taken me to each Excellence Centre, so I now have faces to names and links with everyone. The network is growing already, with interest from two new Trusts requesting more information on the network and the process of becoming an Excellence Centre, which is wonderful news.

I was lucky enough this month also to be part of a Quality Mark assessment day alongside my colleague Gemma Wilson. It was a packed day of interviews, observations, discussion with senior leaders and evidence based, and it completely reinforced the value the Quality Mark holds in defining and endorsing superior delivery of learning and training, creating highly motivated and effective workforce in line with the overall strategic vision.

Our team at the NSAH grew this month also with the addition of another Learning Apprentice Coordinator. I would like to welcome Henry Annalfi, who, after speaking with him, I know already he holds the same high expectations as we all do here within the team and will make a great addition.

My next steps for the Excellence Centre network is bringing together more of the collaborative work that has also begun. My links are growing with CEPN and HEE leads, which, in turn allows me to piece together the ongoing work being facilitated, but also the future work enhancing the value of the Excellence Centres.

One area I am concentrating on is my work with SMEs and new Providers, as both are major stakeholders in the growth and delivery for the network. With the changes in the Levy, it has left some SMEs feeling out of the loop with apprenticeships, so we are working to show this isn’t and shouldn’t be the case. As for Providers, we welcome high quality training Providers into the network and under an Excellence Centre geographical area.

All the colleagues I have met along my travels have been exceptionally supportive and positive for the future growth and structure of the network. Many are now contacting me with information they wish to share, something I have been told was not a priority before for the network.

At the beginning of August, I am hosting a strategy meeting with senior colleagues and some Excellence centres hosts to reflect and refine the current model to ensure it dovetails with the current climate. This, I feel will be extremely useful and allow hosts to have their say in the future developments, truly making the model employer led.

I know for some it is now holiday season, and as normal the British weather is not as great as we would hope, but whatever your plans are for the summer, I wish you pleasant times and hope the sun shines on you all!
